We're almost done training...Thank God

The competition on the 21st is almost here. And honestly, I'm happy. I'm almost out of juice...Almost.

Today was the second to the last heavy session for me. It was also the last day to do any kind of deadlift.

Here's the work...

1. Squats with Buffalo bar

Starting with the barbell, everything felt very bad. My leg's were just jelly. I did 140, 230, 430, and 500...all very slow. Then, Richard called for 600. That meant that I had to do 600, which is my planned opener at the competition.

Well, Richard did it very, very easyily. So I had to lift it.

With a little knee wrap and motivation, I hit a solid rep. What a relief! With my taper and rest, this should be a speed squat at the meet. One more squat on Monday, then I'm done.

2. Stiff legged deadlift from a dead stop off the floor

These were really sticky off the ground. Hard to get the load moving, which is just what I need to get my speed back. I may do lot's of these in the spring and summer.

I did 3*3 at 405, then 3*5 at 315 with a snatch grip.

3. Close grip bench

I've had a bit of a twinge in my pec lately, so I took this very easy. Just did a rep with 335, then added a 2-board and did 400 for 3 reps with the close grip.

4. Lot's of triceps extensions, about 6 sets in all.

I'll have a heavy squat and speed bench session Monday, then almost nothing towards the end of the week or early next. The thursday before the meet, I'll work up to 50% or so in the squats and bench, just to prime myself. Also, lots of stretching, etc.

We're almost ready to lift.
